Three Ways to Set Up Two-Step Authentication in Shopify

Authentication in Shopify

Shopify is one of the best eCommerce platforms out there. With Shopify, you can create your online store and manage your online transactions. The multinational company is based in Canada and headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. This excellent software allows users to manage their online point of sale system no matter how large the product catalog is. With the help of a reliable internet connection from Charter TV Choice, you can easily upload all the assets to the online store and begin your sales at the earliest. One thing of key concern is the security of such stores. It makes sense if you are thinking about the possible security hiccups that may pose a challenge to your online store. The good news is that Shopify allows users to set up two-step authentication.

This will aid you in enhancing the overall security of your platform even though it already has a cybersecurity infrastructure in place. The two-step authentication consists of the login step followed by a code entry that will only allow you to log in to your account. Therefore, nobody can access your Shopify account if they do not have this code. The code is only active for a limited time. Learn more about how you can set up two-step authentication in Shopify.

How to Set up Two-step Authentication in Shopify?

You can set up two-step authentication in Shopify quite easily. All you have to do is head over to Shopify and enter your login credentials to sign in to your account. Next, click on “manage account” by clicking on your profile name present in the top right corner of the window. Now, click on “security” present on the next screen. On the next screen, click on two-step authentication. Following this, click on “turn on two-step”. Now, you will have three different types of authentication options to choose from.

These will be the authenticator app, security key, and SMS delivery. An authenticator app generates a code on your phone when you attempt to log in. A security key uses your phone’s fingerprint scanner to help you log into your account while an SMS delivery method, as the name implies, sends a verification code to your phone.

Authenticator App

Shopify recommends the authenticator app option most of all since it is the most secure and reliable one. Select the option and then click on next. You will need to download the respect authenticator app on your phone. Once you have downloaded it, open the app to add an account.

Next, you will need to scan a QR code from your Shopify account with your phone’s camera. Now, you will see a 32-character key on the desktop PC you’re using to access your Shopify account. Enter it into your phone. After this, the authenticator app will be set up. You won’t have to scan the QR code again for this device. However, you can always add more devices for this purpose.

Now, you will receive a confirmation email on your primary email address informing you that the authenticator app is ready for you. On the desktop, you will see 10 codes that you can use to log in to your account. Download these codes from the “downloaded recovery codes” option that you see on the screen. Print them or just download them. Make sure to keep them safe so that only you can log in to your account by using these codes.

Security Key

To set up two-step authentication, select the security key option on the “turn on two-step authentication” page. Then, click on “next” to set up your security keys. This feature will only work with one device. If you want to sign in from a different one, you will have to attach a second device. To add a device to your Shopify account, you will need to head over to “manage account” followed by “security”. Click on “your profile” and go to “two-step authentication”.

Now, click on “enroll a new device”. Enter your device credentials to set it up. You will be given 10 codes that will allow you to log into your account along with a security key. Keep the codes safe as they will allow you to log in if you lose the security key. You will have the option of printing these codes or downloading them to your system.

SMS Delivery

If you want to set up SMS delivery, click on “SMS delivery” followed by the “next” to proceed with setting it up. On the next screen, you will need to enter your country code and mobile phone number. Enter it and click on “send authentication code” when you are done. Shopify will send a code to your phone every time you try logging into your account.

You’ll have to enter this into a dialog box on your desktop PC after successfully entering your login credentials. Remember that this will be a 6-digit code. This is a fairly simple process and not too complicated.

How to Turn Off Two-Step Authentication?

Although this is not recommended, you can also turn off the two-step authentication security feature from Shopify. To do this, simply log into your account and click on your profile name in the top right corner of the window. Click on “manage account”. Now, click on “security”. Click on “two-step authentication” and click “remove” written next to your phone number. Click on it. The platform will ask you to enter your password. Enter it to confirm the removal of the two-step authentication method.

These are all the ways of setting up a two-step authentication in Shopify. Make sure to enable these features so that you can keep your account safe. Hackers and scammers frequently try to gain access to user accounts to damage people financially. It is, therefore, important to place security measures in place. Keep your online retail store safe with additional safety features as well. It is recommended not to share your login credentials with anyone.
